Kay Blogs About the Esteem Hearing Implant

Back in 2010 I posted about the Esteem hearing implant receiving FDA approval. It is still one of my most popular blog posts and it's a topic a lot of people are interested in.

I wanted to share Kay's blog with you today. Kay has been posting comments on my blog post about her own experience with the Esteem and decided to create her own blog: Esteem Hearing Implant, my experience. There is a lot of useful information on the blog - be sure to take a look!

  1. I'm still on the fence about these implants. I guess it's good people have options and can make the choice for themselves. It sounds like the implant does a little better in noisy situations, but generally speaking is quite similar to a hearing aid. Does anyone know how many people are getting these implants? Are these many complications?

  3. I received the esteem in 2011, the doctor removed it 9 months later because it wasn't giving me the gains my HA did. Then once he removed it, I lost more hearing in that ear and my HA doesn't help me anymore. Esteem says they have 97% success, but that is because some people are afraid to have it removed. So as long as a patient has the esteem, happy or not, it is considered a "success".

  5. Regardless of how well it works, I think the name is awful. To me "esteem" makes it sound like having visible hearing aids is something to be ashamed of, when it isn't.
